Little Lou (2024)

'Little Lou' follows 12-year-old Lou Kene, the middle child of a fractured family living in rural Texas. Lou's father Frank has a history of ex-wives, creating the dysfunctional dynamic of the home as Lou never gets the chance to bond with a mother figure. Franks desire for a son (and his subsequent disappointment) fuels his hatred for his daughters, Lou in particular. His third marriage to Lilla introduces her teen daughter Spencer to the family, a kind-hearted, spunky girl who connects with the girls as their older sister. The absence of a mother figure and Frank's harsh parenting style leads to a deep bond between the siblings. Spencer becomes the unlikely glue that then holds the fragile family together, keeping Lou in high spirits despite her environment. However, as Frank and Lilla begin to build up resentment towards one another, it is revealed to Lou that a divorce between the two would take Spencer away from her. The film crescendos with a confrontation between Lou and her father, ending with a dramatic turn of events.

Little Lou is a 2024 drama/thriller short directed and written by Laine Clair, a young aspiring filmmaker from New Zealand. This is Clair's 4th short film and explores themes of abuse and isolation.
