Emerging Filmmaker Laine Clair Releases New Short Film, Little Lou

A new voice in the world of independent cinema has emerged with the release of Laine Clair's highly anticipated short film, Little Lou. At just 17, this talented filmmaker is already making waves, impressing audiences with her unique storytelling and bold visual style. Little Lou, released on August 30 2024, marks Clair's fourth short film and is a testament to their creative potential and vision.



Laine Clair, hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, discovered her passion for filmmaking at 16. Creating a first short film The Charity Case with friends. Shortly after she made two other short films before Little Lou, Initiation and Mune.


Little Lou is a drama/thriller short film. The story follows 12-year-old Lou Kene who navigates life in a fractured family under the harsh rules of her father Frank, as his desire for a son fuels his resentment towards his daughters. Through its innovative storytelling, the film delves into themes of child abuse and isolation.


One of the key aspects that sets Little Lou apart is its narrative structure. Clair's directorial choices showcase her ability to build a captivating narrative and built tension.
